The Door Alarm
The chime that says a door has stood open, and why it can sound with the door shut.
A door alarm on a wine cooler protects the air inside, not only the temperature. On Mercer Island a door left resting open lets damp lake air into the cabinet, and that moisture shows up later as fog on the glass or frost on a coil.
Which chime is it?
Not every chime is about the door. On some older Sub-Zero wine models the tone that sounds is a temperature alarm rather than a door alarm, so tell us which unit is sounding and what the display was doing at the time. Silencing a temperature alarm only hides what it is reporting.
On UC-24 models, once the unit has been on for over a minute, holding WARMER and COLDER together for five seconds switches the door alarm off or on. Silencing it does not close the door.
Sounding with the door shut
Usually the door rests just off its seal: a bottle neck or rack edge standing proud, or a door no longer closing square. The note on glass-door gasket wear shows how a tired seal changes the close. If the door seals cleanly, the door switch or the control comes next, tested on the meter and priced as wine storage repair.
